Purpose:

The purpose of this grant type is to create green schoolyards to protect the health, well-being, and educational opportunity of children most vulnerable to increasing temperatures and extreme heat across California. Projects shall be centered around improving the environmental conditions and experiences for school children with the highest levels of co-benefits.

Description:

The CAL FIRE Urban & Community Forestry Program works to optimize the benefits of trees and related vegetation through multiple objective projects as specific in the California Urban Forestry Act of 1978 (PRC 4799.06-4799.12.1)).

This solicitation targets nonprofit child care facilities receiving government funding to support planning and implementation of Green Schoolyards Project. The Grant can include all aspects of planning and implementation of the project. Budget limitations are Between $200,000 and $6,000,000 awarded per application including no more than $1,000,000 per child care facility (CAL FIRE funded). Funds are paid on reimbursement basis. Advance payment options are available to nonprofit organizations serving disadvantaged communities.

Matching Funding Requirement:

Projects that meet the criteria for being in or benefiting a disadvantaged community, low-income community, and in-need educational facilities will be eligible to have their cost share requirement reduced or completely waived.
