Purpose:

The purpose of the SJRC is to create the San Joaquin River Parkway (Parkway) to preserve and enhance the river’s extraordinary biological diversity, protect its valued cultural and natural resources, and provide educational and recreational opportunities for local communities and visitors.

Description:

Activities eligible for the Program include:

  • Property acquisition for resources conservation and public access
  • Implementation of habitat enhancement and restoration of public or private lands 

All projects must be approved by both the San Joaquin River Conservancy Board and the Wildlife Conservation Board to receive a grant award.

Eligible Geographies:

The San Joaquin River Parkway, which is defined by state law as approximately 5,900 acres on both sides of a twenty-two-mile-long reach of the river between Friant Dam to the east and State Route 99 to the west, in Fresno and Madera Counties. 

Matching Funding Requirement:

Cost share is not required but may be beneficial, in particular to complete a larger project. Applications with higher proportions of secured cost share contribution towards total project cost will score more points through the “Cost Share” application evaluation criterion.
