    Purpose

    This Grant Program provides funding for implementation projects that will improve water quality in the San Joaquin River and the Delta. The program targets subsurface agricultural drainage water from the west side of the San Joaquin Valley, an area of primary concern for protecting the water quality of the San Joaquin River.

    PRC § 75029 requires that funds will be available for eligible projects that improve water quality in the Delta, the San Joaquin River, and the Sacramento River.  DWR interprets this to mean the legal Delta, the San Joaquin River and tributary watershed downstream of major dams, and the Sacramento River and tributary watershed downstream of major dams.

    Since 1985, the Urban Streams Restoration Program provided more than 270 grants in accordance with California Water Code Section 7048, ranging from $1,000 to $1 million to communities throughout California. We fund planning and implementation projects that protect infrastructure by restoring streams, creeks, and rivers to enhance the environment for fish, wildlife, and people.
