Purpose:

The goal of this grant will be to develop and provide training for educators to become literacy coaches and reading and literacy specialists and provide support for the local educational agencies that receive the allocation in Assembly Bill 181, Section 137 (Chapter 52, Statutes of 2022) and to provide support in meeting the State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s goal of all California students reading by third grade by 2026.

Description:

The California Department of Education (CDE) invites county offices of education (COEs), or consortia of COEs, to apply for funding through the Literacy Coaches and Reading Specialists (LCRS) Educator Training grant program to develop and provide training for educators to become literacy coaches and reading and literacy specialists to further the State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s goal of all California students reading by third grade by 2026.

The duration of the project will be from August 2023 through March 31, 2027. The successful applicants must be able to demonstrate that their proposed project is evidence-based, conceptually clear, technically feasible, and leads or contributes to a culture of continuous improvement after the grant period.

To be eligible for this funding opportunity, LEAs must submit an application for this Request for Applications (RFA) by the deadline posted on the LCRS web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/pd/ps/lcrsprogram.asp. The application must be signed by individuals with authority to submit applications for funding on behalf of the institution or agency.
